What Makes a Social Media Profile Attractive to a College Coach

You already know coaches are looking at your athlete's social media before they ever reach out or even seen their game tape.

So the real question is: what exactly makes a profile stand out to them, in a good way?

Coaches don't usually sit there scrolling for ten minutes analyzing every post. They glance, form an impression, and move on. Most of what matters is sitting right there on the profile in plain sight.

Here's what tends to catch their eye first:

The profile photo
Make these clear, consistent, sport-specific, and discernible.

The bio
Include your sport, grad year, and team. These feel like small details, but without them a coach might not even be sure they've found the right person.

The last handful of posts
Game highlights, sure, but don’t forget to also show why you stand out as an athlete and as a person. Find ways to show your work, your growth, your goals, your character.

Comments and captions, not just posts
What your athlete says to other people often says more than what they post about themselves. Be smart!

Tagged photos
Be intentional about tagging and collabs.

Public versus private
A private account can feel like the safer choice, but it isn't always the advantage people assume it is. If you want your profile to be discoverable to coaches and recruiters, you athlete profile must be set to public.

None of this has to look overly polished or produced. It just needs to capture who your athlete is and what they’re working towards.
